We spent the entire summer making plans for reopening, writing protocols for the institution, setting up crisis management plans, setting aside a “sick room”, spacing out all of our classrooms and study spaces to 6ft/2m “social distance”. Yeah, that poor word-choice was difficult to get back once it got used everywhere. Our college was fortunate to have the space to get our classrooms and library operational for Fall 2020, at a reduced capacity. We alternated which days certain groups of students would be on campus and tried to schedule their classes to ensure they wouldn’t be here over lunch hours. Everything started to feel very empty and lonely in our once-bustling community hub of a library and institution.
